Not only should your bedroom be comfortable, functional and inviting, it also needs to set the right tone.
Particularly in the winter months, when cosy layers and textures take centre stage, piecing together a luxurious, drama-filled boudoir can be lots of fun. Here are a few things to consider when creating your idyllic moody bedroom:
Pick your palette
Style your room with colours that represent the season. For winter, a monochromatic palette of shadowy greys, charcoal, forest greens and a contrasting shade of cream will set the scene and create just the right amount of drama. This range of natural, environmental tones are great for the bedroom because they promote a feeling of relaxation. Emphasise the design of your quilt cover by using sheets in coordinating colours. Get adventurous by choosing a charcoal, teal or silver sheet over plain white, or mix it up with a two different colours for your flat and fitted sheets.
Fetch some foliage
Introduce a living plant or some cut greenery into the room to keep things fresh. Not only will they invigorate the space, but plants have been known to elevate your mood – a perfect remedy to the winter blues! Try using an eclectic assortment of vases or hanging planters for visual effect.
Texture is a vital tool for achieving a warm and inviting space. Think ‘creature comforts’, like a warm woven throw that that doubles as a blanket, some extra decorator cushions on chairs and the bed, and a floor rug to keep things warm under foot. Fabrics and finishes like faux fur, fringed details and velvet accents all work towards a perfect winter habitat.
Bring the room together with a textural wall hanging or piece of art that highlight the colours of your decorating story. Include a few smaller decorator pieces on the bedside tables to complete the look.
