how to customise your bedding

Creature comfort; that's the ultimate goal when selecting bedding products.

There are many different bedding materials, treatments and technologies on the market that can help create your ideallic sleep-haven. Because everyone is different, you’ll need to do some research to find the products that work best for your body's individual sleeping needs.

It's something of a "Goldilocks Effect". We want to create a bed environment that keeps us cosy and warm throughout the night, without allowing us to get overly hot or too cold.

The softness of the bed is also important; it can't be too hard that it's uncomfortable, or too soft that we feel no support. We're looking for something JUST right.

From a health and protection standpoint, it's also a good idea to invest in a defensive bedding layer which lies between our body and the mattress to protect it from any liquid spills or sweat stains.

As you can see, there are quite a few factors that come into play when picking a set of bedding products that suit your body.

Feeling a little overwhelmed? Here's your customisation cheat sheet:

  1. Softness

Do you find it difficult to get comfortable when lying in bed? Perhaps you can feel the lumps and bumps of an old mattress underneath you, or you just feel cosier with an extra layer of padding between you and the mattress. This is where the mattress topper comes into play. Its primary purpose is to provide an ultra-soft, cushiony layer on top of your mattress to ensure optimal comfort throughout the night. Finding your ideal level of softness comes down to personal preference. But a dust mite-repelling Greenfirst Mattress Topper is a crowd favourite.

  1. Protection

Mattresses are big investments, so it pays to look after them and prolong their life. Using a mattress protector on your bed will help shield your mattress and topper from the general wear and tear of daily use and protect it from any sweat stains or liquid spills. The waterproof backing of the Coral Fleece Mattress Protector will provide long-term protection for your mattress, or for those who suffer from allergies, the antibacterial, dust mite and mould repellent qualities of the Greenfirst Bamboo Mattress Protector is a great for keeping common allergens at bay.

  1. Temperature control

Finding and maintaining your body's ideal temperature for sleep isn't easy. Luckily, there are a range of products on the market to help control the climate of your bed. Wool products have a natural ability to regulate temperature. Wool quilts or underlays are designed to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter, allowing you to enjoy a great night's sleep all year round.

Thermal Balancing products use innovative Outlast technology to absorb, store and release excess body heat as your skin needs it throughout the night. This dynamic cycle works continually throughout the night and keeps your body at the ideal temperature for sleep, no matter how hot or cold your bedroom is.
