Blue is one of the most versatile decorating hues, but turns out it's not just a pretty shade to look at...

According to recent studies, the colour used in your bedroom not only impacts the way a space looks, but can also affect how the room makes you feel and the quality of your kip.

A blue colour scheme in your bedroom, can actually help you get a better night's sleep!

A study conducted by Travelodge found people who slept in a blue room enjoyed a longer sleep than those who inhabited a room of any other colour. Having blue in the bedroom contributed to an average sleep time of 7 hours and 52 mins per night, a time that is significantly longer than Purple at 5 hours and 56 mins, Red at 6 hours and 58 mins and its closest rival, Yellow at 7 hours and 40 mins.

Of course, you don't see the colour of your room with the lights off at night, but the shades used on walls and decor can impact how you feel before you close your eyes.

Blue has long been associated with feelings of serenity, which makes it a popular choice for the bedroom. It has also been accredited with helping to reduce blood pressure and heart rate, inducing a more peaceful sleep.

In feng shui, blue is considered to bring the energy of calm and peace, as well as an overall sense of relaxation and healing.

A lighter blue is associated with harmony and growth, while darker blues evoke energy, wisdom and serenity.

Anything that promises a better night's sleep is worth a shot, right?
